A refined styrax blended with soapy citrus and vanilla amber. Very powdery—not dusty—vintage that evokes the 19th century. In the dry down, the amber touches on dried fruit, creating a fun contrast. Along with patchouli, lemon, and tonka, they form a camphoraceous top note that sometimes reminds me of home-made Mikados. There’s also a milky-spiced vibe. But I think the nostalgic, powdery air of the styrax steers the blend in a direction closer to my tastes, turning the citrus into something rainier, cleaner, and sweeter.
I’ve tried several from the Memento line, and this is undoubtedly the best and most wearable. Maybe my nose is off, but it smells a lot like Nicolai’s New York Intense or Creed’s Bois du Portugal. Despite being citrus and incense-heavy, it strikes me as very fougère, clean, and elegant for daily wear.
