Perfumes That Broke My Heart: A Fleeting Love Between Sea and Incense. Acquasala fell in love with me instantly; its opening is aromatic and aquatic: algae, neroli, and spices create a clean, salty, almost mystical vibe, like standing on the shore of a dark sea with a fresh breeze. But that moment doesn’t last; as it dries, that special marine accord vanishes completely. What remains is drier and earthier: incense, myrrh, iris, and patchouli—well-constructed, but lacking the initial magic. I would have loved for the algae to persist or for the heart to carry it; if they had managed that, it would be iconic. What hurts most is that I don’t know where to classify it. It’s hard to pin down, and that saddens me because I loved it too much, yet I’m not sure if I’d wear it. It’s like a brief, brilliant love that never finds its place.
