The opening pairs saffron with the velvety, apricot-like side of osmanthus and the clean freshness of magnolia. It feels spicy and floral at once, with enough lift to keep the start from feeling heavy.
The heart brings together passion fruit, tuberose, patchouli and oud wood. Passion fruit adds juicy, lightly tart brightness that cuts through the rich creaminess of tuberose.
Patchouli and oud add earthy, woody depth. This is where Carmela leans most clearly oriental, yet the texture stays smooth rather than harsh.
