My mom absolutely loved it; she still has the empty bottle and I’m sure she’d recognize it instantly, even though it’s nearly impossible to find today. It reminds me of one of the first AXE deodorants (I’m not sure if it was the Agreste or Sandal version) that were sold. On the other hand, this willful dismissal of our past is the result of a relentless campaign by certain political and intellectual elites who believe nothing from the past can be good—whether it’s dictatorships, monarchies, companies, history, or art… Whenever the past is mentioned, it’s only to denigrate it, associating it with adjectives like ‘stale,’ ‘musty,’ ‘grandpa smell,’ ‘gray Spain,’ or calling the countryside ‘paletolandia.’ This is what they sowed, and the harvest we’re reaping is ignorance, forgetfulness, and destruction, as Jean-Paul Belmondo once wisely noted.
This was my grandmother’s perfume, and I finally managed to get a 25ml bottle. I didn’t remember the scent due to the passage of time, and it’s so unique that it’s hard to describe. You can detect a floral vanilla, as if geranium and heliotrope were blended together; I don’t like those flowers on their own, but they work well with the vanilla. It reminds me of Shalimar not because of similarity, but because of that mix of vanilla, citrus, and florals. It also smells like the opening of Brut; in fact, I notice anise in Flor de Blasón even though it’s not listed. It’s a scent from another era that could still exist, but Myrurgia discontinued almost everything. What a shame, because it would have its own niche. It has moderate sillage but a strong presence, with that vintage quality that today is the holy grail. It’s not for everyone and not a good blind buy, but if you can find it at a ridiculous price, grab it.
