“She was destined to be a perfumer,” says Patricia Bilodeau. But hard work and a bold determination clearly had something to do with it, too. Born and raised in the state of New York, she found her calling as a teenager during a summer job in a fragrance laboratory, and has devoted herself wholeheartedly to it ever since. After learning to develop fragrances through the traditional method via formal training at Florasynth, she continued her career at Dragoco and then at Creations Aromatiques, which became Symrise, boldly breaking into a profession that some people still considered a man’s world. For this woman of great imagination, also known for her cooking and dry humor, fragrances are “another way of communicating with others.” With a special talent for finding inspiration in everyday life, she stands out by translating her clients’ ideas into the language of aromas and knowing that her compositions make those who wear them happy. “A good fragrance is one that you enjoy and use often,” she considers. Comfortable in all settings— from specialty brands such as Victoria’s Secret to prestigious and niche labels— Patricia Bilodeau has never given up her prolific capacity for invention, embodying the idea that creativity and popularity can go hand in hand.
