I discovered the Boticário house this year and I’m surprised by the wide variety of quality levels within the same brand, quite heterogeneous. I bought it in Brazil for about $50 for 95ml, batch from 2022, and have been testing it for a few days; I must say, I love it. It has a slightly spicy and faintly fruity opening that lasts only a few minutes, then develops into a woody trail with a sandalwood note that personally surprised me, since I’d never had a perfume with such a dominant sandalwood note. It has great performance, I’d say 6 to 8 hours, staying close to the skin for the last two; maybe it lasts a bit longer. It projects very well in the first hours, which is appropriate for an EDP. If I had to summarize, I’d say it’s 90% woody with good longevity and projection. It’s a good aromatic composition accompanied by some sweet amber notes, but it’s nowhere near gourmand. I see it as quite versatile, though I’d probably avoid extreme heat days. Highly recommended, although I believe it’s only available in Brazil. I’d like to highlight that sandalwood has been used for millennia in Hindu and Buddhist rituals, and this wood, which grows mainly in India, Australia, and New Caledonia, is attributed medicinal and relaxing properties. In fact, the Japa mala is often made from this wood. I’m just adding this as an interesting fact that, in my opinion, adds certain symbolic value to fragrances with this aromatic note. Highly recommended. Cheers.
Zaad Santal is a hidden gem in the world of affordable designer perfumes. What strikes you first is the quality: O Boticário uses raw materials and craftsmanship that clearly surpass the average. In fact, if this scent—and even more so any from the premium Blend line—bore the label of Creed, Xerjoff, or Parfums de Marly and sold for $300, few would dare question it. The fragrance opens with a woody, amber accord, gently wrapped in clean, comforting musks. Spicy nuances emerge alongside a violet that recalls Fahrenheit’s iconic almost ‘gasoline’ accord, though here it’s presented with greater elegance and balance. The true star is a creamy, naturally smelling sandalwood, exquisitely crafted, which dominates the composition without ever feeling heavy. The result is a scent that radiates warmth and sophistication, with surprising aromatic quality for its price point. It’s a creation that has nothing to envy from many niche houses, proving that O Boticário knows how to compete in the big leagues. In short: a must-have for sandalwood lovers, with a quality-to-price ratio simply unbeatable.
