An Air de Paris Spicy, formerly Gentlemen, remains a classic elegant men’s fragrance. Upon application, the initial laurel is strong for a second before everything fits perfectly; the notes appear and fade at just the right moments. It starts with laurel, nutmeg, and geranium with a citrus touch, then the nutmeg takes over with natural basil and the castor appears, which is the best part of the perfume. It finishes with cedar and sandalwood. It stays true to its spicy/woody theme, and although it has a slight citrus note, it doesn’t smell dry or suffocating like others. I like that it feels homemade, without exotic essences, championing spices from long ago. The downside is that it’s very serious: it smells like a Nordic gentleman in a gray suit and ironed shirt on a cloudy autumn day, without passion. I love the quality, especially the basil. The trail isn’t huge, but it lasts about 6 to 8 hours as it should.
