Love it. Opens with a shy bergamot that quickly envelops the vanilla-benzoin-amber trio, creating a very pleasant sweet and resinous vibe. You can detect a woody-smoky nuance from the guaiac wood and a touch of iris. In the dry down, there’s some musk. It feels very balanced, with great longevity and quality ingredients. A bit linear. Perfect for autumn and winter, for night wear. Lasts forever. Heavy trail.

Taklamakan isn’t for beginners, not because it’s disturbing, powerful, and boldly warm (which it is), but because it has an otherworldly quality that leaves you wondering what on earth you’re smelling and needs minutes (in my case, with an inexperienced nose) to assimilate. It’s an exotic, woody, sandy, slightly dusty but not excessive, very dry yet perfectly creamy scent that recreates dunes and sandstorms. Ideal all year round, better for daytime (without too much heat), but it shines in summer. Powerful and risky, yet very versatile. Dry down is perfect resinous incense with non-gourmand vanilla. A 10 in longevity, performance, and sillage. Second perfume by Stephane Humbert Lucas and it won’t be the last because mamma mia…

  • Taklamakan is delicious, warm, and hugging. The first time I atomized it, I thought it was somewhat masculine, but that was only for a second. Soon it settles into a totally unisex scent of resins, spices, and woods sweetened by a non-pastel vanilla. It has an incense-like, smoky touch, but as FranSeatJones says, it’s hard to identify isolated notes. It smells like quality, like the East, like a One Thousand and One Nights story. Moderate-to-notable sillage and 10-12 hours of longevity on my skin. Scent 7.5/10 Longevity 10/10 Sillage 7.5/10 Value 5.5/10 Versatility 7/10 Packaging 8.5/10 Would I buy again? I didn’t buy it.

  • Pure masterpiece. What a work of art Stephane Humbert Lucas has created; between Taklamakan and Mortal Skin, this guy has earned his wings. Very dry, woody, warm scent with notes in perfect harmony. I think every lover of oriental fragrances must try this gem.
