Oud Indochine by Maksim Perfume is a 2024 olfactory creation designed for men and women. This new fragrance, signed by perfumers Maxim Bortnikov and Rajesh Balkrishnan, unfolds in a complex and exotic olfactory pyramid. The top notes reveal a warm and spicy opening with cardamom, saffron, and vanilla. The heart of the composition is sustained on a resinous and amber base, where myrrh, beeswax, frankincense, gaiac wood, and labdanum interweave their scents. Finally, the base notes awaken with a powerful and dark presence: Indian oud, dark chocolate, Thai oud, oud wood, cacao pod, birch tar, and ambergris, closing the experience with unparalleled depth.

In the world of oud, the oud-chocolate duo is becoming trendy. Oud Indochine fits right in: dark chocolate, coffee, vanilla, and a brutal oud, similar to Maksim Bortnikoff’s. The only thing I know that’s remotely similar is Gold Spot, but it’s not the same. GS comes out fresh with bergamot and caramel notes; here, OI is darker, bitter, smoky, and woody. It projects massively and lasts about 8 hours. Worth trying for the quality, though it might clash with those who don’t like gourmands or hate oud.
I was genuinely surprised by how good this blend is; it’s not as risky as other scents from the house, and paired with the coffee one, both are absolute 10s.
