Sometimes less is more, creating a sense of complexity. @alghabra_parfums’ KING OF FLOWERS hits hard at first with oud and patchouli, but that fades quickly. Then, very slowly, the real ingredients emerge. Bergamot is just a flash, but it gives that initial freshness. Next comes the bitter, dry grapefruit; I usually don’t like it, but mixed with the florals, it becomes attractive and peculiar. Then iris and lavender join in, creating a creamy, metallic, powdery scent that’s highly aromatic thanks to those purple flowers. Each flower smells different on the skin; on me, the iris stands out. As it dries down, amber takes over, turning the fragrance into a balsamic, resinous broth with earthy notes—that’s why I initially thought of patchouli. The base is slightly woody due to the sandalwood, and the whole thing is a wheel of olfactory memories. I love this house and am going to try their discovery set to explore the entire collection.
Reminds me of Ambre Sultan by Lutens, but softer and without that sharp edge; I don’t know the price, but the quality really shows. Forget the florals—here, a sweet, well-blended amber takes the lead with a truly oriental vibe.
