I don’t get why toxic comments are tolerated toward La Dame de Noir; the woman is a beast, the perfume is a bomb, and it leaves an eternal mark. If it’s not that, talk about inappropriate things and then demand respect. This user has completely lost their way.
To me, it’s a simple, light, and pleasant scent. I’m sure she would have liked it since it shares notes with Shalimar, so I guess that was the intention. No offense, but Frida was a marketing product created by Diego Rivera—a character, not the real person; she was of European descent, maybe with some Indigenous ancestry, but originally she didn’t dress like that, nor did she have those eyebrows or mustache; it was all her husband’s idea to sell her work as something exotic. Think of it as a celebrity perfume: if you’re a fan like me, keep it in your collection with the understanding that it’s synthetic with little sillage and longevity. It’s not ridiculously expensive either; obviously, there are perfumes with excellent performance at great prices, but for some, it won’t last, while for others, it might last a bit longer. It’s not the perfume of the century; it’s simply a fantasy of what she might have used, a pretty bottle she could have painted, and a small tribute to a woman who managed to bring her work to the public and leave her legacy in history.
I tried it yesterday, and it saddened me to associate the name of this great artist with this cheap water that doesn’t last even half an hour. The opening was very pleasant and promising, a fine talcum powder scent that was quite unisex. But after 15 minutes, the fragrance dissipated and took on the nuances of very cheap cologne. A nauseating whiff due to the poor quality of the ingredients. What a shame that the guardians of Frida’s legacy are willing to prostitute her name with products of such low quality. Sad, but true.
