Descripción

Balenciaga Cristóbal for Men is a woody oriental fragrance launched in 2000. The nose behind this composition is Gerard Anthony. The top notes unfold lavender, bergamot, coriander, white pepper, and hyssop; the heart reveals sandalwood, Colombian coffee, cedar, patchouli, tea, and geranium; while the base notes close the pyramid with vanilla, benzoin, amber, and tobacco.

  • These days it seems logical that masterpieces disappear from the market. What a shame. Cristóbal’s departure was already a promise of a great winter night perfume; it smelled incredibly good on the skin. The heart notes showed wonders and revealed who you were at dinners or formal events, while the base notes lingered on shirts even after washing. The only way to describe it: Brilliant, the King of Winter. Goodbye forever, Cristóbal.

  • A magnificent and timeless fragrance, what a pity that jewels like this stop being produced.

  • I just got the ‘cologne d’orient’ version in 200 ml. This eau de cologne isn’t listed on Fragrantica and is a super wearable, versatile oriental. I don’t understand why they stopped selling it; judging by the bottle and the naturalness of the ingredients, I think low profitability is the reason, especially when brands sell massive doses of cheap ambroxan for €90 just by slapping Dior on the label. For me, the scent is perfectly balanced between vanilla, sandalwood, and amber, with lavender and spices in the background giving it a masculine touch. Longevity and sillage are good for an eau de cologne. No flaws, except occasional moments of ‘I’ve heard this before,’ but no, I haven’t really heard it, or if I have, it was worse.

It’s the second discontinued scent from this house I’ve tried, brought from JoseSan’s collection. The ingredients blend perfectly to create something balanced, warm, and soft, with a depth I’ve missed in modern perfumes. It’s a shame that good things disappear; yet, one must remain open-minded, as sometimes it’s hard to believe such aromas survive solely thanks to generous collectors sharing treasures like Cristóbal. It’s chameleon-like: fresh at first, then sweet and embracing at the end. If I find it at a good price, I won’t hesitate. Optimal.
