Indifferent: a purgatory perfume, neither heaven nor hell. Woody and spicy opening, but with a rancid vibe that’s unpleasant. Smells like wet wood about to rot or a leaky, dusty library. Then it settles into a dusty, animalic floral wood note—pretty but difficult. The drydown is resinous, warm, and spicy, which is the best part, but the journey isn’t enjoyable. Lasting power is impeccable, over 8 hours. Strong trail at first, then moderate. Ideal for cold nights, hard to recommend, but at this ridiculous price, if you don’t try it, it’s because you don’t want to.
Delightful sample of DARKBEAT from the ‘Umayyad Caliphate’ collection. Resins and patchouli with lemon create a refined oriental chypre, woodier and spicier than the typical rose-oud. In oil, it sounds like an Arab symphony: cedar and sandalwood zurna, and a gaiac ney that evokes intoxication. The rose and iris sweeten the opening. The Al Haramain amber arrives late but is enchanting. Applying oils is tricky, so the trail is moderate but very long-lasting.
