Sometimes you stumble upon olfactory surprises like this modern gem from Voile Blanche. You have to look at the details, and that’s where it shines: it steers clear of typical aquatic vibes thanks to these subtle nuances. It starts fresh with an ozony air, but quickly settles into a fantastic floral arrangement featuring jasmine, water lily, peony, and sweet fruits that dominates until well into the dry-down. Then it blends with green notes and that perfectly executed seaweed and sea scent; it’s as if the sea’s algae are blooming. You can perfectly smell the salt, the water, the sand, and the brine. As it dries, it becomes musky with hints of hot, dry sand, featuring a rare spicy touch like nutmeg that brings it to life. Longevity is moderate, about two to three hours, after which it lingers on the skin with a slightly synthetic but acceptable side. It’s unisex and I absolutely loved the concept; I appreciate Voile Blanche’s rarity as an original composition that shines on its own. Rating: 9
