From the very first spritz, an overlooked gem of perfumery. Why isn’t anyone talking about this? It’s so good that after buying a 50ml, I managed to grab a 100ml bottle, which I might never even open, but that’s a story for another day. Opinion is an amber-vanilla fragrance that opens with a spectacular explosion of aldehydes and something very green, unripe mandarin. At first, it seems like it’s heading down the path of a Shalimar or a Fougère Bengale, but it’s not. Almost immediately, you notice a floral heart where I perceive a spiced carnation. The sweetness of the honey is perfectly counterbalanced by the citrus and green notes. Maybe there’s cardamom or coriander… we don’t know, since the pyramid we’ve been given is very sparse. There’s also a leather and oakmoss in the dry down, giving it a certain old-school barbershop character. It’s impressive that everything hits with meridional clarity in three distinct layers: green citrus, amber-honey, leather. This accord will stay this way for many hours. It’s truly a charming fragrance that also gives a certain resinous (maybe myrrh?) or Coca-Cola candy vibe, but never loses its seriousness thanks to a complex and very masculine base. It might also remind you a bit of Heritage. It’s an elegant and serious perfume, but with certain echoes of an oriental scent. A true masterpiece.
