Total surprise fragrance, bought blind based on the notes. I was looking for a Japanese signature scent and this was a hit. Kimono Mai smells like Japan in every way. The vanilla is a perfect non-gourmand version—airy, citrusy at first, soft, clean, and very musky when dry. It smells like an 80s Cabbage Patch doll. It’s a subtly sweet silk veil that you can dress up in, pure delicacy. An ethereal, beautiful, and one of the tenderest scents I’ve ever smelled. The white bottle reflects its interior. It lasts only a breath as a cologne without alcohol, but I’m already head over heels. Edit: After months, if they release an alcohol-based version with better longevity, it would be my all-time favorite, number one in my collection. I always want to wear it, I feel so comfortable, and it would be perfect if I only had one. Fragrantica is missing matcha and balsam notes. Pure happiness. Edit: For the second bottle, I’m going for it.
