  When I bought ‘Iris Nazarena’, I received several samples, including ‘Encens Japonais’. This incense has a very varied progression: frankincense, resins, pink and black pepper, woods, roses, and soft touches of iris, all built on the house’s spectacular DNA that I’ve already identified after trying their entire catalog. The first spray hits with a non-irritating pepper note, followed by a velvety rose and the star note, the frankincense, which fuses everything into a brilliant, hypnotic perception that invites introspection and relaxation. In the mid-phase, it becomes denser, adding resins, rose, suede-like leather, and warmth from amber, with a velvet sensation thanks to the iris—a delicate, bitter, and vegetal accord that exudes distinction. It evokes the cold touch of a bronze door handle on ancient temple doors. One of the most refined incenses I’ve tried, without being intrusive like Amouage’s Interlude or ecclesiastical like House of Matriarch’s Devotion.

  The name fits perfectly. It’s an incense for those who don’t usually wear that note. It’s white, soapy, and sometimes aromatic. It’s not liturgical or heavy; instead, it’s clean, refined, and pleasant, radiating peace and serenity. I see it as more masculine, like a good father hugging his children to give them security. It creates a crisp, white aura without invading personal space, although the price is very high to justify the purchase. What a pity it’s so good and refined. Miaochi
