Civet Cat is a natural-ingredient perfume that’s super opulent and elegant; wearing it transports me back to Marie Antoinette’s era with those wigs and lots of powder as if that’s how the high aristocracy smelled. It doesn’t smell like Chanel No. 5 like the comparisons say—it has exquisite luxury but is distinctly different. In fact it doesn’t remind me of any other perfume I’ve tried. Its strongest notes are civet oakmoss ylang-ylang and lily-of-the-valley root which take you to another time. It’s very animalic a vintage scent that either captivates or horrifies upon first try. I enjoy it in winter and don’t like it every day; I have to be in the right mood to wear it. Moderate sillage and lasts about 7 hours. Exquisite.
