  Black No. 1 took home the award for Sexiest Fragrance of 2012 at the International Artisan Fragrance Awards. The first thing you notice is a dark, potent leather scent, like putting on a brand-new leather jacket. Although they claim it has over 300 ingredients, they don’t list them individually. It smells of leather with some pine resin (like encre noire but more polished and less sharp) and a woody/creamy base that’s definitely sandalwood. It’s super complex and evolves constantly. It’s not a beast in longevity, even though it seems like it at first; it lasts about 5-6 hours. Projection is good for a couple of hours without being annoying. The issue is the price: $330 for 50ml. Plus, they don’t even specify if it’s EDT or EDP, just listing “artisan created” and “vintage 2015.” It’s good, but not excellent, and at that price, it falls flat. The leather note is the best I’ve tried, but I don’t recommend spending that much. Should you try it? Not urgently, but if you get the chance, you won’t be disappointed.
