  • I’m always surprised to be one of the few reviewing Mary Kay perfumes. I love that they have their own identity; it’s clear the perfumers know luxury, they’re original, and they’re available at a fair price (if you thought catalog perfumes cost $10, go to a flea market). I adored AT PLAY: in the bottle it seemed soulless, but on the skin the notes really came alive. First came the cashmere, which smelled like soft leather, velvet-like, unisex at first, but then the vanilla made it feminine. Next was the jasmine, which added a fresh touch. An hour later, the milk note kicked in—that was my reason for buying it blind, along with the almond; that almond milk blend lingered for a while (two hours after spraying). I barely noticed the fruity part, and the wood notes faded (though I don’t get why it’s classified as woody; I’d say more talc-like or musky). Anyway, I wish the bottle were bigger, but for the price, the size is fine. The fire note (I think it’s charcoal dust) I only smelled after many sprays.

It arrived as a gift and is absolutely delicious. Literally smells like you just dove into a vanilla ice cream. It has tons of personality and elegance; it’s strong with a masculine touch, but the jasmine is always present. I see it as unisex—men and women can both wear it. The sillage is good, though not overpowering, and the longevity is moderate. But here’s the thing: if someone gets close and smells it, I guarantee they’ll be won over. Simply delicious.
