My mom gifted me this before Hurricane George in ’98, and back then it was a treasure. Nowadays, it’s nothing like it used to be; I wouldn’t wear it.

Anne Klein, the designer who transformed fashion in the US and around the world with her ‘modern woman’ concept—casual yet elegant, something rare in the 60s. Donna Karan and Dell’Olio carried the torch in the 70s and 80s. Her first fragrance is a dream: a honeyed white floral with velvet notes typical of that era. The opening is an intoxicating blend of neroli and lily of the valley, perfectly balanced like a freshly cut bouquet. The neroli is intense, while the musks add personality without being metallic or loud. Green tones from galbanum, paired with white notes of lily of the valley, jasmine, and gardenia, plus a touch of peach, keep the neroli from evolving too much, keeping it sweet, voluptuous, and elegant. As it dries down, subtle woody notes like sandalwood, balms, and resins start to shine, gradually taking the lead without hiding the neroli. It’s absolutely gorgeous; if you love animalic floral scents with neroli and characterful gardenia, you’ll adore it. Lasts forever on skin. My review is for the old Eau de Parfum made in France, though I believe it’s still produced in America today.

Anne Klein by Anne Klein (1984), a classic aldehydic floral from the 80s. Very pretty, with a powerful opening and well-balanced aldehydes. The floral notes are well-blended, with neroli taking the lead over a touch of ylang-ylang. The base of vanilla, benzoin, and amber rounds out the animalic notes of civet. The declared fruity note smells like peach to me, very typical of 80s compositions. It reminds me a lot of Elisabeth Taylor’s White Diamond, but it dries down to a super-rounded, superior finish compared to ET. I really like it.

Powerful opening, spray with caution. Reminds me of Perfume Design. It’s floral, then softens in minutes but keeps emitting that rich floral scent, especially neroli. It’s not sweet; it’s a green, powdery floral. Beautiful for enjoying on cool nights or outdoors in the cold.
