Amber promised and, in the end, delivered. I think the launch date was off; I remember buying a bottle I still have that smells more like 2005-6 than 2008. As a cologne, it had brutal projection. It’s a dirty, potent scent. I took it out of the closet yesterday, put a little on my wrist, and was dizzy for half an hour. Maybe it’s due to age, but it’s an amber with a very strong anise note, Opium pour homme style, radiating like a demon. The bottle design is lovely, almost identical to later Marc Jacobs lines and Chanel Exclusifs. Amber was linear with no evolution, but it kept its promise. I remember two other versions, one with sandalwood and the other I can’t quite place.

Yesterday I made a mess with Zara Home and @LaDamedeNoir: first I tried the Nordic Leather body milk (incense, sandalwood, and leather, a total oriental hit), but the lotion didn’t do it for me. Then, while paying and forgetting what I already had on, I sprayed Tonka Wood from their perfume line; it didn’t grab me either, it was too sweet, so I left it. I got home, showered, and an hour later, by pure chance, I smelled my hand where I had tested everything… and I was blown away. A heavy, intense scent, like a woodsy gel, that I kept sniffing for half an hour. The question is whether it’s the lotion, the perfume, the mix, or how my gel and basic Johnson’s Baby body oil amplified everything. Anyway, no other part of my body smells like that.
