As she grew up surrounded by various aromas, Marion Costero’s passion for fragrances began at an early age. With a mother who loved international cooking full of spices and aromatic herbs, and the time she spent with her grandmother in the High Provence Alps between thyme, savory, lavender and linden, Costero’s childhood was steeped in a rich olfactory landscape. Aspiring at first to become a horticultural engineer to create new plants and aromas, she ultimately pursued her dream of becoming a perfumer by attending the prestigious ISIPCA (Institut Supérieur International du Parfum, de la Cosmétique et des Arômes Alimentaires).

Today, Marion Costero is Senior Perfumer at Givaudan and has also worked with IFF. She divides her time between Paris and Brazil, constantly expanding her horizons through cultural and botanical experiences. Costero’s extensive travels have given her numerous olfactory memories, such as the scent of orange blossom flowers in the courtyard of the Cathedral of Córdoba and the blend of plants and resins with Moroccan spices.

She has collaborated with several brands, including Água de Cheiro, Avon, Eudora, Habibi NY, JAFRA, Jequiti, L’Occitane Au Brésil, Les Liquides Imaginaires, Mandarina Duck, Natura, O Boticário, Shakira and The Merchant of Venice. Her most famous creations include O Boticário Egeo Choc, Natura Essencial Exclusivo, Natura Humor 6 Paz e Humor and Avon Far Away Beyond.

Marion Costero’s approach to perfume creation is deeply rooted in her sensitivity to natural raw materials. She sees these ingredients as perfumes in themselves, possessing rich and multifaceted qualities. Vetiver, everlasting flower, labdanum, cidra and tonka bean are among her favorite elements to work with.

Costero’s creations often come from her personal experiences and her love of nature. For example, her fragrance ‘Sumawood’ was developed for Givaudan’s Naturality event in Paris, advocating the creation of nature-conscious fragrances. Inspired by the idea of a sandalwood flower, the fragrance features an Australian Santalum Album, a bouquet of woods and renewable molecules from Givaudan, evoking the image of a sandalwood flower carried by the wind.

Her fragrance ‘Into the Jungle’, created for Mandarina Duck, is another example of Costero’s adventurous, nature-inspired approach to perfumery. With a blend of ingredients from Italy, France, Brazil, North Africa and Haiti, ‘Into the Jungle’ captures the exotic and captivating essence of wild nature.
